Boy Scout Railroad Merit Badge
|

Boy Scout merit badges give scouts the opportunity to investigate around 120 different areas of
knowledge and skills. The merit badge program plays a major role in the scouting advancement
program and participation can begin as soon as a scout registers with a troop. Each scout can
explore topics from American Business to Woodworking as he has interest. The only limitations are
his ambition and availability of adult merit badge counselors to offer instruction. By earning the
Railroad Merit badge, Scouts can learn about the history of railroading, its place in modern society,
careers in railroading, and hobbies related to railroading.
The Short Track Railroad Club has participated in and sponsored a number of Boy Scout Troops to
obtain their Railroad Merit Badge. The participating Boy Scouts use the N'trak Standards to develop
their building skills to obtain their requirements. After completing the modules they are put on display
in our museum and taken to model train shows. This allows the public to become aware or the
accomplishment of the Scouts and to encourage other Boy Scout Troops to participate in this
program. A plaque is displayed on each of the modules indicating the Troop number and the names
of the Scout that built the module.
Listed below are the requirements to obtain the Railroad Merit Badge. A work sheet is also required
to be filled in and approval signitures obtained. Web links are provided here for further interest.
You'll also find photos here of the modules that the club currently holds in our inventory.
